While creating Domestic Wildlife Aram Tanis studied the Japanese woodblock prints extensively. Japanese woodblock prints are known for their flat colour areas, strong lines, striking diagonals, the horizon that is placed high or not present at all and zooming in on details from nature.
Domestic Wildlife consists out of a series of photographs taken at Kyoto's Municipal Zoo and Ueno Zoo in Tokyo. The work is being presented in a Japanese cedar wooden box. Tanis has been collecting these boxes over the last several years.
