It Was Never Personal

Tanis grew up in a white neighborhood and went to white schools. He consciously went looking for people with whom he could identify in the media, except there were none.
For this publication Aram Tanis used torn, moldy and discarded advertisements to create new photographs. We are bombarded with images via the internet, television, magazines and advertisements. We (un)consciously record these images and are influenced by them. With these photos Tanis took away all meaning.
