DEPARTURE BAY
Jacqueline Heerema
Artists Jacolijn Verhoef and Aram Tanis created the short documentary 'Departure Bay' in Scheveningen and Zeeland. This work is about the experience of Tanis' father, who as a child was when the flood disaster in Zeeland (1953) took place.
In the context of large-scale coastal developments for coastal protection, this is a particular interesting document, because the flood disaster instigated 60 years delta works, who recently have been completed. The latest innovation in this area is the sand engine in Zuid-Holland.
During there time at Badgast Tanis and Verhoef, who are city people, had a daily sea view and experienced how it influenced their way of looking and thus influenced the documentary. The sea has something melancholic, looking from the sea container to the sea while it rains and blows.
The project 'Departure Bay' exist out of a short documentary, a photo book and a set of 12 postcards.
